Your period is late, and you’re not feeling so great. Do you think you’re pregnant? Now’s the time to begin the process of confirming your pregnancy with free lab-quality testing at Advocate Women’s Centre.
Empower yourself with the critical information that you need by scheduling an appointment with us. Let us be your best first step.
Confidential Pregnancy Testing
At your expedited appointment, we will furnish you with a pregnancy test. A urine pregnancy test detects the presence of hCG, which is a hormone associated with pregnancy.
The production of this hormone starts right after a fertilized egg attaches to the wall of the uterus.
At-Home Pregnancy Tests
Even if you have already received a positive result from an at-home pregnancy test, confirm it with another one at Advocate Women’s Centre. Pregnancy tests you purchase at your local shop can be accurate, but often women take them too early or don’t follow the directions carefully.
Don’t spend any more money on pregnancy tests. Come in and verify your results in our centre.
The Best Time To Take A Pregnancy Test
Your body begins making the hCG hormone about 10 days after conception. We suggest taking a pregnancy test about three to four weeks after the first day of your last period, as this is when the levels of hCG in your urine will have increased enough to be detected.
If your menstrual cycle is fairly regular, plan on taking the test a couple of days after your missed period. If it’s generally irregular, take the test 5 to 7 days after your missed period.
Next Step: Limited Ultrasound
With a positive pregnancy test result, the next step is a limited ultrasound scan to confirm whether the pregnancy is viable or not. With up to 20% of all pregnancies ending in a natural miscarriage an ultrasound may help you to avoid undergoing an abortion procedure.
