Free Limited Ultrasounds
Schedule an appointment at our centre where we will provide you with a pregnancy test. If your pregnancy test is positive and you meet the criteria, a limited non-diagnostic ultrasound scan is available on your request, at no cost to you.
Wondering why ultrasound is necessary? Mainly it tells you how far along you are in your pregnancy. This is vital information, especially if you are considering abortion.
What Is A Limited Ultrasound?
Ultrasound is an imaging method using high-frequency sound waves to capture an image from inside your body. During the ultrasound, a gel-like substance is placed on your abdomen, and an instrument called a transducer is rubbed over the gel.
The transducer picks up echoes of the sound waves inside. They bounce back and electronically become black and white dots. Those dots reveal an image from inside your uterus, which you can view on a computer screen.
Why You Need A Limited Ultrasound
While a positive pregnancy test can indicate pregnancy, the only way to confirm it is a viable pregnancy is through ultrasound.
Our pre-abortion ultrasound service is free and confidential. Why not get as much information as possible before you make your abortion appointment?
- An ultrasound scan is used to confirm that you are pregnant. Since at least 20% of all pregnancies end in a natural miscarriage, you may get a positive pregnancy test result but not be pregnant. By having an ultrasound, you’ll find out if your pregnancy is capable of continuing. In other words, was a heartbeat detected?
- How far along you are in the pregnancy. The law has specific cut-off dates regarding abortion. The gestational age of the pregnancy is critical information that you need to know. Ultrasound scans can provide you with this information.
- Where your pregnancy is located. Although not a regular occurrence, it is possible for your pregnancy to be located outside your uterus. This is called an ectopic pregnancy and can be life-threatening. You will be furnished with information on the signs and symptoms of ectopic pregnancy.
